Description
Value Added Life has formulated PROCHOL primarily as a natural product for reducing cholesterol levels in the blood. However, one of the two active ingredients, Beta-sitosterol, is also known for relieving sufferers from benign prostatic hyperplasia. Older males who suffer from both conditions – many do – will therefore benefit from PROCHOL by avoiding having to take two separate supplements.
Beta-sitosterol can be found in foods such as wheat germ, rice bran, peanuts and soybeans and has a structure similar to the cholesterol produced in the body. Its extract is known for reducing symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) such as frequent and painful urination. Several double-blind experiments to determine the efficacy of beta-sitosterol in men with BHP have consistently indicated significant improvements in BHP symptoms.
Beta-sitosterol may also reduce blood cholesterol levels. The similarity of its chemical structure to cholesterol allows it to block cholesterol absorption and it is known for improving the high/low density lipoprotein ratio in the blood. The level of low-density lipoprotein in blood is linked to atherosclerosis - the narrowing of the blood vessels due to build up of lipids. High levels of low density cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease. Beta-sitosterol has also been indicated for improving the immune system and regulating sugar levels in the blood, for reducing inflammation and healing ulcers but scientific studies have not yet supported these claims.
Policosanol is extracted from sugar cane. It is widely used as a nutritional supplement and has been known to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood and improve the high/low density lipoprotein ratio. Studies have also identified anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and neuroprotective properties of Policosanol. Efficacy and safety have been proven in many clinical trials.
